Reduce Discord CPU usage in Windows 11/10
Since Discord is a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), digital distribution platform, messaging service, it puts stress on both the GPU and CPU of a computer. So, it is safe to say that you are not the only one facing this problem. To reduce Discord CPU usage in Windows we are going to use the following methods: Let us talk about them in detail.
1] Enable or Disable Hardware Acceleration
It may sound a little confusing but stick with me on this one. Discord uses its Hardware Acceleration feature to use your computer’s GPU to its limit in order to do graphic-intensive tasks. Therefore, if your computer has an old or weak processor then you should disable Hardware Acceleration, otherwise enable it. To do that, launch Discord, click User Settings (from the bottom left corner of the screen) > Appearance (left panel) > enable or disable Hardware Acceleration. Now, restart your application and check if the problem still persists.
2] Use more CPU cores
A lot of people don’t know that your computer, by default, never uses every single CPU cores. However, with the help of little setting tweaks, you can do that easily To do that, hit Win + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter. You will be redirected to the System Configuration window, go to the Boot tab, click Advanced options, tick Number of processors, change the number of processors to maximum, and click OK. Finally, click Apply > OK > Restart to maximize your CPU power. Now, because of the increased CPU cores, you will be able to reduce Discord CPU usage. There is one thing to be clear here. This is not a consumer option. Changing CPU cores has led to computers of some users go into a BSOD restart loop; so you need to be careful here.
3] Reinstall the latest version of Discord
A simple fix for any problem with the Discord application would be to reinstall the app, this way you will be able to use the latest version of the app that comes with all the bugs fixed. To do that, you need to uninstall Discord first, so, head to Settings > Apps. Search Discord from the search bar > click Discord > Uninstall. This way you have deleted the application from your system. Now, download the application from discord.com and install it on your computer. Hopefully, this will reduce Discord CPU usage. Discord does a lot of things at once as it is a VoIP, messaging service, digital distribution platform, and a lot more. Therefore, it is not normal for it cause high CPU usage. But at one point it can get alarming. That’s when our methods to reduce Discord CPU usage in Windows come in to act. TIP: See this post if Discord streaming is not working.
