How to make a Black and White picture on Windows PC
If you want to change your color picture into Black and White, you can use one of these free photo editing tools for Windows 11/10 PC.
1] Make B&W pictures using the Photos app
If you are using a Windows PC, you already have a photo editor installed on your PC by default. You can make a black and white picture using the Photos app on your PC.
Go to the picture you want to turn black and right-click. Click on Open with and select Photos from the menu. You will see the direct button to the Photos app if you have been using it lately. Once the picture is opened in Photos, click on the Edit Image button.
Go to the Filter tab and there you will see various preset filters in a panel. Scroll down to get the Black and White filters.
There are four different filters- B&W, B&W Cool, B&W Warm, and B&W High Contrast. Try each one of them and select the one which makes your picture better. If you are not liking these preset filters by the app, there is another way to make the pictures black and white. Instead of clicking on the Filter tab, go to the Adjustment tab and it will open the options to edit your picture.
Reduce the Saturation level to zero to first make it black and white and then adjust the contrast, brightness, exposure, warmth, etc as per your own taste.

Picsart is a very popular photo editing application for smartphones, but there is a PC version of this app too. With Picsart you can edit your photos and videos easily. It is a free and very simple tool with some really good features and tools. You can not just make your picture black and white with PicsArt but also make beautiful collages, and add some great filters. It is actually an all-in-one photo editor which is available in both free and paid versions.
To make a black and white picture on Picsart, launch the application and click on Editor. Now upload the image you want to edit.Click on Adjust and it will open the options. Reduce the Saturation level to -100% and your colored picture will turn black and white.You can then adjust the other aspects to enhance your picture.
3] Adobe Photoshop Express
Adobe Photoshop Express, as the name itself, shows is an application from Adobe Inc. It is a free photo editing program with basic editing features to enhance your pictures. It is available in both mobile and PC versions. You can download it for free from the MS Store and edit your pictures. In just a few clicks you can make your picture black and white too.
Download, install and launch the too Adobe Photoshop Express.Click on the Filter icon and then select the B&W Section.This section has quite a few options like- Faced B&W, 60s TV Grab, HiContrastBW, Infrared, Pinhole, Sepia, White Mist, Antique, Selenium, and Green Filter.Try these filters on your picture and see what suits them best.

4] PhotoPad
PhotoPad is again a free photo editing software that gets the job done right. Obviously, the free programs are not as feature-rich as the paid ones, but they are good enough for basic photo editing. You can make your picture black and white using this tool easily. Download and install it on your PC and launch it. Add a picture and click on the Colour tab, next to the filters. Just like the tools mentioned above, you can either turn the saturation level to -100% or you can add a Black and White filter to your picture. This tool apparently has only three B&W filters- Grayscale, Sepia, Old Photo, and Nocturnal.
5] PhotoScapeX
PhotoScapeX is also available for free download at Microsoft Store. Download and install it on your PC and launch it. Open the picture you want to edit and click on the Colour option. Reduce the saturation to -100% and the colors from your picture will go. You can then adjust the brightness, contrast, highlights, etc to make your picture look even better.
