Google Meet has gained tremendous popularity over the last month, especially when the employees across the globe are logging in from their homes due to pandemic. In fact, Meet added more users than any other service from Google for the last 3 months.

Zoom is also an equally popular group calling and video conferencing app. Zoom offers Gallery view where you can see thumbnail displays of all participants, in a grid pattern. The grid view expands or contracts depending on whether the participants join and leave the meeting. Zoom Gallery view can display up to 49 participants on a single screen. However, the visibility of these many participants depends on the size of your computer screen.

It is possible to view the participants in a Grid pattern in Google Meet

Google recently mentioned that Google Meet would soon have the feature of viewing up to 16 participants in a grid view. This feature would be called a Tiled view. It is similar to the Zoom Gallery view. However, if you want this feature now, it is possible to add the Zoom Gallery feature to Google Meet via a Google Chrome extension, called Google Meet Grid View.

The Grid View extension is applicable to Google Meet and not to Google Hangouts. The developers of this Grid View mention that the extension does not store any data. It is just a cosmetic change, where you can view the thumbnails of the participants together on the screen. To add the Zoom Gallery feature to Google Meet, simply add the extension to Google Chrome. You will get a notification mentioning that the extension can read and change your data on Google Meet. Once installed, you will see the following icon appearing on your Google Chrome.

Whenever you wish to have the gallery view in your Google Meet conference, simply click on this icon of four squares. You can add the Grid View extension for Google Meet from the Chrome Web Store. Try it and let us know your take on this extension. Read next: Video conferencing etiquette you need to follow.
