Why is my Hello PIN not working?

If you are unable to set up Windows Hello Pin or if it is not working due to some reason, maybe the NGC Folder got corrupted. This folder contains details of Windows Hello authentication and can get corrupted due to some reason. In that case, we need to delete the folder as it will recreate itself the next time you try to set up Windows Hello. There are some other reasons and solutions as well that you can check hereinafter.

Fix Error 0xd000a002, We weren’t able to set your PIN

If you see Error 0xd000a002, We weren’t able to set your PIN, follow the solutions mentioned below. Let us talk about them in detail.

1] Recreate NGC Folder

All the information regarding the PIN is stored in the NGC folder, a corruption in that folder can cause the issue in question. Therefore, the very first thing we are going to do is clear the folder so that it gets recreated again.

To do the same, follow the prescribed steps. Note: If you see a message that says “You have been denied permission to access this folder”, you need to change the permission of the folder. To do the same, follow the prescribed steps.

Right-click on the Ngc folder and then go to the PropertiesGo to the Security tab.Click Advanced and then on the Change button associated with the Owner.Type in Administrators in the “Enter the object name to select” field and click Ok.Note: If you get an error message after typing “Administrator”, write “Everyone” instead.Click Apply > Ok.Finally, restart your computer.

After changing the permission, go to the same location and then delete the content of the Ngc folder. Once you have made all the changes, try setting up a PIN. Hopefully, your issue will be resolved.

2] Make sure that Turn on convenience PIN sign-in is enabled

Next up, we need to make sure that the Group Policy, Turn on convenience PIN sign-in, is not disabled. You can skip this solution if you don’t have Group Policy Editor. Now, in order to configure the policy, you have to open Group Policy Editor and navigate to the following location. Administrative Templates > System > Logon Look for Turn on convenience PIN sign-in, double-click on the policy, and check Enabled. Finally, click Apply > Ok. Finally, check if the issue is resolved.

3] Use System Restore Point

If you have created a System Restore Point now is the right time to deploy it. It will change the configuration of your system to the point when the PIN was working. In case you haven’t created a restore point, you can skip this solution, but do create a System Restore point for future use. In order to do the restoration, you need to follow the prescribed steps.

Launch “System Restore Point” from the Start Menu.Click on the System Restore button.Follow the on-screen instruction to complete the process.

After doing the system restoration, try creating a PIN, hopefully, your issue will be resolved this time.

4] Switch to Local Account

Some users were able to resolve the issue by using a Local Account instead of a Microsoft Account. You can do the same, in order to resolve the issue. Follow the steps to create and use a Local Account. Once you are signed in using the Local Account, create a PIN. Hopefully, this time, you won’t face the same issue.
