The first app on our list, DJI Terra was developed by one of the biggest drone manufacturing company DJI. They have three planning types namely, Area, WayPoint, and Oblique. You have to go for Area in order to capture a specific area by drawing a zone on the given map. Waypoint allows you to customize things, with this you can alter the speed, trajectory, etc of a flight. WebODM is an open-source Drone Mapping software. It has arguably the most loyal fan base in the market. However, that’s quite understandable as the team behind this app is very active and is always trying to improve the application. But the only caveat is that you may have to install it from GitHub and that’s quite a learning curve. However, it’s worth the learning as it is one of the most powerful free software in the market. Another thing worth mentioning here is that WebODM is a little difficult application to use. But you can learn by reading the description from the mentioned GitHub page. 3] DroneMapper Rapid
DroneMapper Rapid has both a free and a paid version. The free version is more than enough for casual users and we are going to talk about that in this section. However, it is not the best on this list. One of the biggest problems with DroneMapper Rapid is that since it doesn’t rely on the cloud for processing and does that locally, therefore, it can be a bit slow depending on your computer’s specification. It also has a paid version called Remote and Remote Expert. That being said, if you want a DroneMapper that has a simple UI then you should download the software from their official website. Drone Mapping applications are usually found in mobile platforms such as iOS and Android, but one of these should do just fine on your PC.
